All abstract contributions received for the MEDSI conference will be accepted as either an oral contribution
or a
poster. All abstracts submitted as oral contributions will be reviewed by the MEDSI Scientific Program
Committee
(SPC). Due to the limited time slots for oral presentations, some oral contributions may be accepted as
poster
instead of oral. Email will be sent to the authors to confirm the type of the presentation.
Authors are advised to use the JACoW templates for paper preparation.
Authors are also reminded that, since no contributions are accepted for publication only, any paper accepted
for
presentation, which is not presented by one of the authors at the conference, will be excluded from the
proceedings.
The Scientific Program Committee reserves the right to refuse papers that have not been properly presented in
the
poster sessions. Manuscripts of contributions to the proceedings (or enlargements of them) are not
considered as
posters.
Described below are some basic requirements for the preparation of contributions; more complete guidelines
are
provided in the text of the JACoW templates, available in the "For Authors" section of
the JACoW website.
Length of Contributions
Papers for poster presentation may be up to 3 pages long; Contributed oral presentations may be up to 4
pages. If
contributions contain numerous references, these may be carried over to an extra page.
Page limits will be strictly adhered to. All papers exceeding their limit will be returned to the author for
revision.
JACoW Template
Use of the JACoW templates is mandatory—always download the latest template from the JACoW
site before starting.

In case of difficulties, consult the JACoW electronic publication help pages. The templates contain styles
which, when applied, will automatically ensure correct typesetting and layout. Use the JACoW Styles and
Macros pull-down in the MS Word toolbar. Ensure that the template you download corresponds to the version of
the software you are using. Do NOT convert documents across different platforms, MAC < > PC, or across
different versions of Microsoft Word on the same platform. Always use the styles contained in the templates. The styles will automatically ensure
correct typesetting and layout, and ensure you are not called to fix these problems again.
General Layout
See the template texts for a typical implementation of the requirements. Manuscripts should be prepared with
a paper size of either:

US letter size (8.5 in × 11.0 in; 21.6 cm × 27.9 cm) or
-
A4 (8.27 in × 11.69 in; 21.0 cm × 29.7 cm)
Text should be single-spaced in two columns of 3.25 in (82.5 mm) with 0.2 in (5.3 mm) separation. Text should
also be located within the margins specified as follows to facilitate electronic processing of the
PostScript file.
Authors should use only Times or Times New Roman (in standard, bold, or italic) and Symbol fonts. All
contributions should use 10pt fonts for the normal text.

Title
-
The title should use 14 pt bold uppercase letters (except for instances such as GeV, Nb, etc.) and be
centered on the page.
The names of authors, their organizations/affiliations and postal addresses should be grouped by
affiliation and listed in 12 pt upper- and lowercase letters. The name of the submitting or primary
author should be first, followed by the co-authors, alphabetically by affiliation.

Section Headings
-
Section headings should use 12 pt bold uppercase letters (except for instances such as GeV, Nb, etc.)
and
be centered in the column. They should NOT be numbered.
Widow and Orphan Control: All headings should appear next to the following text; there should never
be a
column break between a heading and the following paragraph.

Subsection Headings
-
Subsection headings should use 12 pt italic letters, be left aligned and justified in the column.
Like
section headings, they should NOT be numbered.

Paragraph Text
-
Paragraphs should use 10 pt font and be justified (touch each side) in the column. The beginning of each
paragraph should be indented approximately 0.33 cm (0.13 in) The last line of a paragraph should not be
printed by itself at the beginning of a column, nor should the first line of a paragraph be printed by
itself at the end of a column.

Figures, Tables and Equations
-
Figures and Tables should be mentioned in the paragraph. Place figures and tables as close to the place of
their first mention as possible. Lettering in figures and tables should be large enough to reproduce
clearly, using only the approved fonts. Use of non-approved fonts in figures often leads to problems when
the files are processed and may even cause loss of information unless the fonts are embedded.
All figures and tables must be given sequential numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.) and have a caption. Figure captions
are placed below the figure. Table captions are placed above the table. If a displayed equation needs a
number, place it flush with the right margin of the column.
To insert a full width figure:

Insert a continuous section break

Insert two empty lines (will make subsequent editing easier)

Click between the two section breaks and Format ® columns ® Single

Insert figure and resize as necessary

All bibliographical and web references should be numbered and listed at the end of the paper in a section
called "References". When referring to a reference in the text, place the corresponding reference number in
square brackets. A URL may be included as part of a reference, but its hyperlink should NOT be added. See
the templates for a typical example and more information about references below.

Acronyms

Acronyms should be defined the first time they appear.

Page Numbers
-
DO NOT include page numbers. Page numbers will be added by the editing team when they produce the final
proceedings.

Paper Preparation Checklist

Use only Times or Times New Roman (standard, bold or italic) and Symbol fonts for text, 10 pt except
references, which should be 9 pt.

Figures should use Times or Times New Roman (standard, bold or italic) and Symbol fonts when possible 6 pt
minimum, with fonts embedded.

Check that citations to references appear in sequential order and that all references are cited.

Check that the PostScript file or PDF file prints correctly.

Check that the margins on the printed version are within ±1 mm of the specifications.

LaTeX users can check their margins by invoking the boxit option.

Non-JACoW References
It is crucial that all bibliographical references are written clearly and consistently across all the
conference proceedings so that your papers and those of your colleagues can be easily found. Always use the
EXACT formatting of references and citations in the templates. More examples and details can be found in the
Annex B of the full template or on the JACoW website.
